    Genesis 12:2-3 (NIV)

"I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

    The Call of Abram

1 The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's householdand go to the land I will show you. 2 "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.4 So Abram left, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulatedand the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. 6 Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 The LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him. 8 From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD. 9 Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.

    Abram in Egypt

    12:10-20Ref -- Ge 20:1-18; 26:1-11

10 Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe. 11 As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, "I know what a beautiful woman you are. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, 'This is his wife.' Then they will kill me but will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you." 14 When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that she was a very beautiful woman. 15 And when Pharaoh's officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace. 16 He treated Abram well for her sake, and Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, menservants and maidservants, and camels. 17 But the LORD inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram's wife Sarai. 18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram. "What have you done to me?" he said. "Why didn't you tell me she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!" 20 Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.

    2 Thessalonians 3:10 (NIV)

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."

    Request for Prayer

1 Finally, brothers, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. 2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith. 3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. 4 We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance.

    Warning Against Idleness

6 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, 8nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9 We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow. 10For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."11 We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12 Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat.13 And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right. 14 If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. 15 Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

    Final Greetings

16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. 17 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

    1 Thessalonians 1:3 (NIV)

We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.

    Thanksgiving for the Thessalonians' Faith

2 We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. 3 We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 6You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia--your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead--Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

    Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,

    Rules for Holy Living

1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. 12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

    Rules for Christian Households

    3:18-4:1pp -- Eph 5:22-6:9

18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. 22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritancefrom the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.

    Psalms 128:2 (NIV)

You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

    A song of ascents.

1 Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways. 2 You will eat the fruit of your labor;blessings and prosperity will be yours. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD. 5May the LORD bless you from Zion all the days of your life; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem, 6 and may you live to see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel.

Solenn Heussaff on why she prefers to get married abroad: “Oo, 'pag kinasal ako, sa abroad pa rin kasi gusto kong maliit yung wedding. Ayokong mag-invite ng hindi ko close. Kahit sa family ko, I’m not close to everyone. Kuwento ni Solenn, “We had dinner and meetings many times na rin. Busy lang kasi si Doc [Manny Calayan] kaya medyo natagalan. Pero nag-sign na kami last year.” NEW ENDORSEMENT. Matagal na raw kakilala at kaibigan din daw ng manager niyang si Leo Dominguez si Dr. Calayan kaya naman dito niya napiling mag-endorse. Patuloy pa niya, “Saka very mabait siyang tao. He knows his job well, alam niya ang professionals niya sa treatment. MAINTAINING HER SEXY IMAGE. Gaano kahirap mag-maintain ng ganda at kaseksihan para sa mga fans at showbiz watchers? “There’s no secret. Kailangan talaga mag-mix and match. Yung mga tao minsan if you just go to the clinic, yun lang ang kailangan. “You have to mix it up with diet, with exercise. Wala namang secret talaga. It will work naman pero it will go away after a while kung hindi kayo mag-maintain. 'Ayun, balance lang talaga,” paliwanag niya. May times ba na napapagod si Solenn sa pagmi-maintain ng looks niya at dumarating din ba ang pakiramdam na minsan ay parang hindi naman niya kinakailangang i-please ang mga tao?

UST's Karim Abdul (L) goes to the basket against Adamson's Matthew Aquino (R). Photo by Mark Cristino for ABS-CBNnews.com
MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) center Karim Abdul believes the Growling Tigers' ongoing struggles in the UAAP Season 77 men's basketball tournament are due to a lack of focus.
The Tigers have a 2-1 record in the men's tournament but both wins have come by the slimmest of margins, and last weekend, they were once again on the brink of defeat against an untested Adamson squad.
"I think it's lack of focus, I think that's all," Abdul said after the Tigers escaped with a 50-49 win over the Soaring Falcons.
"I can't really say what the problem is," he added. "I think we have the potential, we have everything to be a top team. I guess we just have to focus more."
The Tigers were the losing finalists last season, bowing to the De La Salle Green Archers in three hard-fought games.
They are expected to contend again this year despite the loss of main gunner Jeric Teng, but so far, they have not shown the firepower that made them such a dangerous team in seasons past.
Abdul, who has been the rock of the team in the paint since he came into the league, could not give an answer as to why the Tigers lack focus.
"I don't really know. It's individual for each and every one of us," he said.
The center echoed UST coach Bong dela Cruz's refrain of having to work harder in practice.
"We just have to go back to practice and correct our mistakes, and individually (we have to) see what each and every one of us has to do better next game," Abdul said.

UP coach Rey Madrid. Photo by Mark Cristino for ABS-CBNnews.com
MANILA, Philippines – University of the Philippines (UP) head coach Rey Madrid took the blame for his team's disappointing 71-85 loss to Far Eastern University (FEU) last weekend and acknowledged that the squad is "grasping at straws" so far in the UAAP men's basketball tournament.
"That was on me," Madrid said of the loss, which saw UP keep in step with the Tamaraws in the first half only to get blown out in the third quarter.
"I inserted a new set of five, hoping that they could buy time for my starters. Nag-backfire siya," Madrid said of his tactics in the third period.
"Learning sa akin ito. Short of a blunder 'yung ginawa ko sa start of the third quarter. That's just it. It was a mistake on my part," he stressed.
The Fighting Maroons, who entered the season with expectations of winning at least three games, have dropped to 0-4 and all their losses have come via large margins.
"We are just grasping at straws right now," admitted Madrid, who was appointed the UP head coach midway through Season 76. "We just try to learn as much as we can and not get down too much, not to get discourage, not to get frustrated."
"I know we're doing really bad, but I hope we can put something together before the first round ends and be more competitive in the second round," he added.
A big challenge for Madrid now is keeping his players' morale high despite their poor performances, and the coach said he "can use all the help I can get."
"I just want them to be together right now, kasi that's the biggest challenge right now for us," he said. "We're not a great team, we're not a super team, but we still try to compete at this level, so the best we can do is hold on to each other."
UP will next face last season's losing finalists, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, who are not performing up to their usual standards, and were on the brink of defeat to the Adamson Falcons last weekend before pulling out a 50-49 victory.
UST's struggles are of no consolation to Madrid, however.
"Independent ang look ng one team against another team," he pointed out. "We cannot judge, because malakas ang team na 'yun eh. We don't base it doon sa (game against Adamson)."

Question from Sharon Nuevas via Facebook: “Good am, paano mag-apply ng makeup for daytime, yung parang no makeup?”
    *****
#NoMakeup, #NoFilter. These trending hashtags indicate that natural, "no-makeup" makeup look is now preferable over a too made-up face. These days, less is actually more. But while a naked face may be acceptable in casual settings like at home or in the gym, the no make-up look is the way to go for the office, day-time errands and trips to the mall.
Professional model and makeup artist April Tanhueco of Makeup Redefined shows us how to do a natural makeup look for mestizas and morenas.
Star Magic’s Yana Asistio from the movie “She’s Dating a Gangster” is our model for mestiza look, while triathlete/Zumba instructor, Tal Uy-Chan is for our morena look.
Steps and techniques for both morenas and mestizas are the same. But note that the colors and tones for foundation, powder, correctors, lipstick, eye shadow and blush-on will vary.
    A. Preparation: clean and moisturize face, lips and neck
    1. Make sure to start with a clean, bare face. Use alcohol-free facial wipes to really clean your face from any dirt, oil or makeup residue. Remember to also wipe your lashes to remove that stubborn mascara.
    2. Evenly apply a thin layer of water-based moisturizer. This will help keep your makeup stay on for much longer and make it look more natural.
    3. Don’t forget to also moisturize your lips.
    B. Base: Foundation, correction, concealer and powder
    1. Foundation
Next, you have to even out your skin color by applying foundation all over your face and neck.
Three things to keep in mind: First, make sure you choose the right foundation. Pick the one that is closest to your skin shade and undertone. Shade refers to the lightness and darkness, while undertone refers to whether your skin is cool, neutral or warm. Choosing the wrong one can make your face look greyish or unnatural.
Second, make sure to apply just enough. You don’t want a thick foundation because it will look cakey. Note that most foundations dry up easily so blend immediately and evenly.
Third, don’t forget to apply foundation along your jawline and down to your neck as well. Forgetting to do so will make your face look unnaturally polished as if it’s not part of your body.
For this tutorial, April used Makeup Forever #117 on Yana, and #153 on Tal. But you can also opt for other brands like Kryolan, MAC, and Loreal, whichever captures your skin tone and color best.
    2. Corrections
All of us have imperfections and we can easily fix that using correctors to neutralize the color. Use soft orange to correct bluish eyebags; yellow highlight to cancel deep red and purple caused by bruises; muted green to neutralize redness from insect bites and acne; pink highlight to cover grey and brown eyebags and scars; and extra highlight for areas that left indents on your face.
    3. Conceal
To achieve a fresh look, special attention must be given to your under-eyes so apply concealer that is two shades lighter than your foundation.
    4. Set the base with a powder
Using a powder brush or sponge, set your foundation with a powder of same shade. Keep blending to make it look natural.
    C. Contour
Contouring is very important because it will define the depths of your facial bone structure.
Start with a powder that is two shades darker than your foundation. Using a contour brush, apply diagonally, from the hollows of your cheeks towards your ears. You can make a fish face to help you find the right area. Also apply contouring to your jawlines, temple and edges of your forehead.
    D. Blush
Because you want to achieve a healthy and natural-looking blush, try to think of how your cheeks look like after a vigorous exercise. That’s the shade you should choose for your blush-on.
As a general rule, fair-skinned ladies should go for shades of pinks, while dark-skinned should go for corals and peach.
Apply the right shade of blush onto the apples of your cheeks. It’s the area directly above your contoured cheeks. Smiling will help you find this area easier. Blend this well by brushing in a circular motion across your cheeks.
    E. Eyes
Natural eye makeup should be light shades of pastel colors for mestizas or earth tones for morenas.
Apply a light eye shadow all over the eyelid; light pink for mestizas, light brown or light peach for morenas.
Apply a darker shade along the crease to define the eyes; darker pink or light brown for mestiza, and light to medium brown for morenas. The crease is the part from the outer edge of your lid, unto the area along your brow bone.
Using a black or dark brown pencil, lightly line your eyes. Apply a very thin line right at the edge of your lash line. To add a natural definition, apply on the lashline as well. You can do that by looking down, and lifting your eyelid.
Next, curl your lashes well and apply a moderate coat of mascara. If you have ample lower lashes, apply mascara.
    F. Eyebrows
Using either a brow pencil, or brow gel or brow powder and a slanted brush, fill in your natural eyebrows just to add definition. You can add a curve shape towards the tail to really open your face. Use small, feathery stroke instead of strong, long strokes. Again, this will make your face look young, soft, fresh and natural.
Check if your brows are symmetric by tilting your chin upward when looking at the mirror. Your brows don’t have to be 100% identical. Just strike a balanced feel to it.
    G. Lips
Finally, finish with a lipstick shade closest to your natural lip color; pinks for mestizas, and peach-browns for morenas. You can also opt to swipe tinted gloss on top, or just go for a tinted gloss alone. Tissue off the excess lip product
    H. Finishing touches
You are almost done, but not quite. Clean up the under eye by brushing powder. To brighten the face, apply an illuminator powder at the edge of your cheeks. Blend your makeup once more by brushing all over your face in a circular motion. Just think beautiful thoughts, add a genuine smile, and you’re ready to take on the world!

MANILA, Philippines - Breaking up is never easy. This is true not just for couples, but also with your financial adviser.
ANC On The Money's resident financial adviser Salve Duplito noted that Filipinos have a hard time with "break-ups", mainly because Filipinos are so connected with each other.
"The Filipino culture of relationships taking precedence over common sense has a big bearing on how we deal with financial advisers," she said.
Most of those who call themselves financial advisers are insurance agents. Duplito noted that a lot of times, one buys financial products out of "hiya" or to avoid disappointing people.
Most Filipino financial consumers do not even look at the fine print because they trust the person selling the product, particularly when they're friends or relatives.
When this is the case, Duplito noted that firing the person is a huge problem.
When and why should you cut ties with your financial adviser?
Duplito cited some red flags that tell you it's time to say goodbye to your financial planner:

    1. If you're being sold expensive products that don't match your goals.
    2. If your planner does not disclose risks.
    3. If your planner is a salesman in disguise.
    4. If your planner has no knowledge of the financial planning process and can only help you only with bits of it.
    5. If your planner is unreachable when you need to talk.
    6. If your planner doesn't listen. While he/she may know more, in the end, it's your money.
    7. If there is breach of confidentiality agreements.
    8. If he/she is chasing returns and wants you to move from one investment to the other.
How to fire your financial planner
There is no easy way to fire your financial planner, but Duplito said the best way is to simply "cut clean."

"Let me warn you, your planner is going to make it difficult for you to do that because she will ask you to stay. If you're worried, you can't handle that, it's alright to notify your adviser in writing," she said.
In writing the letter, Duplito said you should keep it short and concise.
"There is no need to indicate your reasons. If she insists, be firm and keep the conversation short," she said.
If your planner is managing your accounts, Duplito said you should indicate in the letter that he/she should transfer all controls to these accounts.
Once this is done, you should change passwords immediately.
"To avoid making the same mistake, if you're planning to hire a replacement be sure you sign up only with someone who provides a contract that clearly states terms of reference, fees and charges, confidentiality agreements among other things," Duplito said.
When dealing with an insurance agent or investment solicitor who does not normally draw up an engagement contract, Duplito said you should require the agent to disclose all risks, fees, charges and commissions at the beginning.
